Standard Motors and the Living Sky Casino have committed to serve as Platinum Sponsors in support of the City of Swift Current's Centennial celebrations during 2014.

In making a $20,000 sponsorship agreement with the Centennial committee, the two businesses will serve as the main sponsors during centennial promotions throughout the coming year.

"We are extremely excited and appreciative to announce that Living Sky Casino and Standard Motors have come onboard as platinum sponsors of the 2014 centennial celebrations," Centennial Committee Co-Chair Pat Friesen announced during a media event on Wednesday. "As platinum sponsors, they will be key players in all centennial promotion throughout the year, and their contributions will assist the centennial committee in planning our three main events - Our Centennial Day, on Wed., Jan. 15th, Centennial Homecoming Weekend in conjunction with Frontier Days, June 26th to 29th, and our Centennial Welcoming the Future event in conjunction with the downtown business associations’ annual tree lighting on Fri. Nov. 28th. It is support from our local business community that will allow us to put on an excellent show for our community and for former residents returning to the community to join in the celebrations."

Having Platinum Sponsors was an important planning aspect for the Centennial Committee, as the centennial year is just over two months away and their main kickoff celebration event is only three months away.

"We’ve been planning this centennial for close to two years now, and it’s exciting to be in the final phases of completing details and actually preparing for the three major events that we’ve planned to recognize our centennial," Friesen noted. "One of the great things about our community is that there are always individuals, businesses, and groups that step forward to participate when events are being planned."

Standard Motors General Manager Ryan Plewis said their sponsorship is just another way they can show their community pride.

"As a milestone, this 100 years is something we should be very proud of as a community. It’s something that we are very proud to partner with the City and the committee in marking as well. We believe that community means strong partners, and this business community in Swift Current is a very strong partner, and is what makes this community such an awesome place to live and do business," Plewis said.

"We live by those words, we don’t just say that Standard Motors and businesses should be a strong part of the community, we actually believe that. And we do that, whether it’s making donations to the hospital, or Doctor Noble Irwin Healthcare Foundation, or the Lyric Theatre for the arts, or the Broncos with sports, or any number of things including the centennial celebrations. We actually believe that the business and the community needs to be a strong partner, and we encourage that type of activity and that’s why we’re here to be a partner in this event as well."

Living Sky Casino General Manager Lionel Tootoosis agreed that businesses have an important role in leading the celebrations.

"We’re very proud to be a sponsor for this centennial. Wow, what an exciting event, I’m getting excited just being here. I’m looking forward to next year, it’s going to be a great event. The Living Sky Casino ourselves, we’re celebrating our five year anniversary here in December and time just flies. A hundred years, that’s probably flown by for some too. It’s a great event for the community."

"We’re really excited for all the events planned and we’ve got a lot of involvement there, so I’m really looking forward to all of that. I want to welcome everyone to the events, so come on out. It’s a time to come home, and it’s also a time to live it up, so I’m really looking forward to everything," Tootoosis said.
