STEWIACKE – A structure fire was contained to the kitchen and bedroom Wednesday afternoon.
The fire broke out at about 12:30 p.m. at 570 MacKay Siding Rd., near Stewiacke, and was believed to be caused by the oil furnace, said Brent Murdock, deputy chief of the Stewiacke and District Volunteer Fire Department.
“It was extensive (but was) contained to the kitchen and bedroom ... and not suspicious,” said Murdock, adding there were no injuries in the blaze and the family got “most of their belongings moved out.”
About 20 firefighters attended from Stewiacke, Shubenacadie, Hilden and Lantz. They were on scene for about 2.5 hours.
