Teen charged after head-on crash in Halifax leaves man dead

HALIFAX (CP) — A 17-year-old has been charged in a head-on collision that killed a 71-year-old man in Halifax.

Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Main Street near Fader Street in Dartmouth on June 24.

The older driver, Wayne Webber, died in hospital and the teen driver suffered minor injuries.

Halifax police say according to their investigation, the 17-year-old was driving westbound and crossed two lanes of eastbound traffic, hitting Webber’s vehicle which was in an eastbound lane.

Investigators say speed was a factor in the crash.

The Dartmouth boy was charged with criminal negligence causing death and dangerous operation of motor vehicle causing death.

He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial youth court on October 17.
