Funeral service Friday at 11 a.m.

Frederick Thomas Muise, age 89, of Maccan passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan following a courageous battle with cancer.

AMHERST – One of the last surviving members of the North Nova Scotia Highlander has passed away.

Frederick Thomas Muise, age 89, of Maccan passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born June 16, 1924 in Yarmouth, NS, Fred was a son of the late George and Theresa (Muise) Muise.

Fred was a proud veteran of the Second World War, where he served in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders. He was also an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 10.

On his return from the war, Fred was employed with Cosmos Imperial Mills in Yarmouth as well as in Ontario.

Fred will be lovingly remembered by his wife the former, Betty O’Hearon (Gould); as well as several nieces, nephews and their extended families.

Fred was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his first wife, Geneive; second wife, Marjorie (Midge) Muise (nee Hurley); sister, Dorothy; brothers, George, Donald, Robert, Ralph and Raymond in infancy; and step-son, Vaughan McAloney.

His remains are resting in Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906)  visiting on Thursday, October 10, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with the Royal Canadian Legion tribute service at 7:00 p.m. and parish prayers at 8:30 p.m. 

Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. from Holy Family Roman Catholic Church with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in the Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery in Yarmouth, NS.
