HALIFAX (CP) — About 6,000 nurses in Nova Scotia have reached a two-year tentative agreement that would provide them wage increases.

Cape Breton Regional Hospital

The Nova Scotia Nurses’ Union says the deal with employers for acute and long-term care nurses concluded late Wednesday.

Janet Hazelton, the president of the union, says the settlement offers annual wage hikes of 2.5 per cent and three per cent.

Hazelton says the deal also ensures that nurses can have a dialogue with their employers on issues that affect their workload.

This contract is retroactive to November 2012 and would expire on Oct. 31, 2014.

The union says it hopes to release the results of a ratification vote on Nov. 13.
