NORTH SYDNEY — Handcrafted home decor and gifts made by fairly paid artisans from more than 30 countries will be available when Calvary Baptist Church hosts a Ten Thousand Villages Festival Sale Oct. 11-12.

Ten Thousand Villages

The 12th year for the event will provide an opportunity for people to invest in the world from their community as purchases made during the sale assist skilled artisans in Africa, Asia and Latin America who receive a fair price for their work.

A non-profit organization, Ten Thousand Villages approaches business in a different way by creating an international marketplace where the well being of artisans in developing coutries is just as important as that of their North American customers.

It's also an opportunity for artisans in developing countries to earn an income by bringing their products and stories to local markets through long term relationships.

Each year, Calvary Baptist Church partners with Ten Thousand Villages, the oldest and largest fair trade retailer in North America, to host a fair.

A staff of dedicated volunteers from the church and community then lend their time to ensure the annual event is a success.

The North Sydney festival sale will be held on Oct. 11 from 2-9 p.m. and on Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 5 Beech St., North Sydney.
