Inmates restricted to their cells
Inmates at the Springhill Institution could be restricted to their cells until the end of the week as an exceptional search continues.
The Springhill Institution remains in a lockdown.
SPRINGHILL – It could be the end of the week before a lockdown at the prison in Springhill is lifted.
The medium-security institution’s 467 inmates were placed into a lockdown on Thursday after prison officials received information of a security concern that raised a health and safety issue at the institution.
“We’re still conducting our exceptional search of the institution. The inmates are being fed in their cells and we have decided to cancel all visits until the end of the week,” prison spokeswoman Shannon Oickle said Monday. “With an exceptional search it’s a long process that takes a lot of time to completed.”
Oickle would not say what the security concern is.
