SYDNEY — Parks Canada partnered with Family Place Resource Centre to create a gardening space in Sydney that is inspired by the 18th century DeGannes gardens at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site.

On Friday, volunteers and community members who have helped make the garden grow got together to celebrate the project.

Parks Canada staff helped create the space, which consists of a fence and boxed gardens similar to the gardens at the Fortress. Staff also shared their gardening expertise to help create programs that Family Place will use to teach families about the benefits of gardening through the real story of the DeGannes who lived at the Fortress in the 18th century.
