The officers received Nova Scotia Police Long Service Aawards which were presented during a ceremony at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre.

Deputy minister  Judith Ferguson of the Department of Justice made the presentations to members of the Cape Breton Regional Police and members of the RCMP in Cape Breton.

A ceremony recognizing 235 police officers from mainland Nova Scotia was held earlier this month.

"The men and women being honoured today have kept our communities safe and secure for many years," said Ferguson, adding congratulations to all the officers for their years of service.

This is the sixth year of the program which recognizes police officers who have achieved 15 and 25 consecutive years of service in the province. The award recognizes both active duty officers and those who have retired.

This is funny - in a non-HaHa kin of way. These people already get their reward - every two weeks they get a cheque or direct deposit that only the most naive person would consider earned.

I can tell that you don't like police Bruce. I'm sure that if someone breaks into your house or car the first number you call is the police.....I don't know if you have been reading the paper but there seems to be a drug dealer busted every two days.... I think there doing a great job these days.....Police put themselves in danger everyday they put on that uniform.... you think that police officer who got stabbed in the neck last week in Halifax earned his pay? You try putting on that uniform!

Congratulations to all who received the award , policing is an honourable profession, and it takes a special person to serve over an extended peroid of time in a consistent professional manner.I attended the ceremony in Halifax and there were numerous Cape Bretoners receiving their awards from their adopted homes in PEI and New Brunswick.
