Hopefully it does hurt him for a long time to come. The punishment for dangerous, reckless driving should be steep no matter how old someone is. If kids (and adults, for that matter) want to be considered mature enough to get behind the wheel of a car, they need to show that maturity in their behaviour while driving. This kid didn't do that. He deserves what he got - I'm assuming speed limits and the dangers of driving at excessive speeds on public highways were covered in his driving course.
