University celebrates the Year of Global Engagement on campus

SACKVILLE, N.B. – Noah Feldman of Harvard Law School and The New York Times Magazine will open this year’s President’s Speakers Series celebrating the Year of Global Engagement at Mount Allison University.

His talk, entitled Global friends, global enemies: Co-operation, citizenship, and competition in the coming Cool War, will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. in Convocation Hall.

Named one of the 75 most influential people of the 21st century by Esquire magazine, Feldman is an expert on Islamic philosophy and law, the separation of church and state, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He served as a senior constitutional advisor to the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq during the drafting of Iraq’s constitution. 

Mount Allison University President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Robert Campbell says, “We are pleased to welcome Noah Feldman to open this year’s President’s Speakers Series celebrating the Year of Global Engagement. His sophisticated knowledge, his extensive experience, and his deep international involvement make him an ideal speaker to explore themes of Globalization and Global Engagement, one of Mount Allison’s defining strategic pillars. I am sure that his talk will be compelling, stimulating, and challenging for the entire university and surrounding community.”

The Year of Global Engagement will see many events and initiatives at Mount Allison including public lectures by human rights advocate, journalist, author Sally Armstrong; Dr. Richard Henizl, founder of the first North American chapter of Doctors Without Borders; and Jennifer Welsh, University of Oxford professor, co-director of the Oxford Institute for Ethics, Law and Armed Conflict, and Canada Special Advisor to the UN Secretary General.
