AMHERST – Life gave young Olivia Patriquin lemonade, and she made it count.

Olivia Patriquin’s early-start in life was supported by staff members like Karen Leblanc at Maggie’s Place. On Tuesday Patriquin offered her support, donating $200 to the family resource centre she raised selling lemonade.

The daughter of Jennifer Poulos and Marty Patriquin took a grey, overcast day to squeeze an opportunity into a generous donation for Maggie’s Place, Cumberland County’s family resource centre.

“I had a lemonade stand in front of my house under a tree,” Patriquin said. “It was a one-day sale.”

Neighbouring the Amherst Rotary Park, Patriquin’s customer base came from the walkers, joggers and children playing at the park.

At the end of the day, she did better than okay.

“I made $119,” she said.

Mom and dad kicked in the difference, giving her $200 to deliberate over.

“We went over some different charities together,” Poulos said. “[Maggie’s Place] was local, and a place she went when she was a baby.”

Patriquin’s memories of Maggie’s Place are vague. Just a newborn, her early start in life was nurtured by the resource centre with songs, check ups and activities to monitor her life’s early progress. While Patriquin’s eyes fell on a toy riding horse she thought she remembered, Maggie’s Place’s Karen Leblanc had fond memories of Patriquin to share.

“Mom would bring her to the baby drop-in. We’d wait for the nurse to weigh her, sing songs and snuggle,” Leblanc said.

Now, Patriquin is supporting the opportunity for another new life in this world to share the experience of family support with her donation.

“When we get a donation like this it’s evaluated; where it came from and where it will go best,” Leblanc said.
