GLACE BAY — A local group is hoping to see some old friends on Monday, as well as some new ones.

Martha Cameron, former dietary supervisor at Seaview Manor, now retired, said the Friends of the Manor will resume meetings following the summer break, Monday at Seaview Manor at 7 p.m.

"The big thing right now is we are looking for some new volunteers," she said.

"Anybody interested at all is welcome to come Monday night or any third Monday of the month after that."

"We are hoping the volunteers who have been with us will come back as well as some new ones."

Cameron said it is a great group, but it has been diminished quite a bit. She said over the years at one time there were as many as 32 to 35 members. She said currently there are 10 or 12.

Friends of the Manor was an auxiliary formed in 1978 to help with some of the activities at the manor.

"To purchase extra special things at the manor," she explained.

She said there isn't a big commitment.

Cameron said the group meets the third Monday of every month at the manor at 7 p.m.

"We have a little bingo game for the residents prior to the meeting."

She said the only fundraiser is a Christmas tea and bake sale at the manor annually in November.

"Last year we purchased a new shower chair for the residents with the money donated from our tea," she said.

"With the help of the community and volunteers, it always made our teas successful. People look forward to the event."
