TRURO – Cameron Begin expects to feel a little weird when he enters a movie theatre Friday night.

Cameron Begin

The 17-year-old Salmon River resident and Cobequid Educational Centre student has a small role in All the Wrong Reasons, a film being featured tonight only in Parklane Theatre in Halifax at 7 p.m. as part of the Atlantic Film Festival. He is taking his mother and stepfather to view the film.

“It will be a little surreal when the scenes come up. It will be a weird mix of emotions,” said Begin, who plays a shoplifter “with colourful language.”

The film, directed by Gia Milani, was shot last summer and Begin’s scenes were taped one night in the Bedford Place Mall’s old Zellers store. The film, a drama with hints of romance and comedy, also stars the late Cory Monteith from Glee and tells the story of four people in a store whose lives are affected by the events in each other’s lives.

Although Begin didn’t share any scenes with Monteith, he was definitely star struck.

“I thought, ‘Wait. I’ve seen (him) on TV.’ You can’t believe it’s happening until after it happened,” said Begin. “He smiled at me, we shook hands but didn’t talk much other than to say hello.”

Begin believes his ability to “step out of my comfort zone” and “go crazy in the audition (by throwing) in a few extra ‘F’ words” helped him get the role.

“When I left the audition I felt good. Two or three weeks later I got an email saying I got the part,” which paid a few hundred dollars, he said.

Begin’s past acting experience no doubt was a benefit as well. He has acted in film and commercials since he was six years old. His first role was a Ben’s bread commercial, he’s had a number of other commercials and small roles in films including Martha Inc: The Story of Martha Stewart movie starring Cybill Shepherd.

He also did voice-over work on the children’s show “Poko” for a season and appeared in another film that appeared in the Atlantic Film Festival a few years ago, Scavengers, that was also directed by Bowles.

Another former Truro resident represented in All the Wrong Reasons is Wayne Burns, who now lives in Montreal. Burns also has a role in Bone Deep in the film festival.
