Police retrieve a body from the harbour near Casino Nova Scotia on Thursday. They are treating the death as suspicious.
In an update to media on Thursday, police said because of the advanced state of decomposition, the person hasn’t been identified.
“It’s been there for quite a while. How long exactly, I don’t know,” said Halifax Regional Police spokesman Const. Pierre Bourdages.
The body has been taken to the province’s medical office and an autopsy will be performed on Thursday.
A concerned citizen reported a strange object floating in the water behind Purdy’s Wharf on Upper Water Street Wednesday afternoon.
Police boats were dispatched just after 3 p.m. and the body was located about 30 minutes later.
