Institutional value of close to $16,000
Prison officials in Springhill have announced the seizure of a significant amount of illegal drugs in the institution.
SPRINGHILL – A routine search of an inmate’s personal effects has resulted in the seizure of what corrections officers are calling a “significant quantity” of contraband at the Springhill Institution.
The interception was the result of the combined efforts of correctional officers and security intelligence officers.
The seizure included 57.7 grams of tobacco, hydromorphone beads, two six-milligram hydromorphone pills, 10 24-milligram hydromorphone pills, 47 dilaudid pills and 127 amphetamine pills.
The contraband has a total institutional value of approximately $16,000.
The Correctional Services of Canada has a number of tolls available that are used to control the flow of drugs and other contraband into its institutions. These include ion scanners and drug dogs to search buildings, inmates and visitors.
It has also set up a tip-line at all federal institutions to provide an additional source for receiving information about activities related to drug use or trafficking that may threaten the safety and security of visitors, inmates and employees.
