It was a hot and sunny Saturday afternoon when people from all over metro and far beyond started lining up for shuttles to take them to the much-anticipated and much-loved outdoor event of the year in Sackville - Weir Rockin'.

"Whoo hoo!," shouted the crowds at the bus terminal on Aug. 17 heading to Weir Field in Upper Sackville. Among them businessmen, teachers, caregivers. Responsible adults. But not on that day.

"Glass Tiger, Streetheart, Foreigner ... party!," screamed the mostly 30-to-40-plus crowd.

And that's about as much as they had to say.

Once again living up to it's name, the concert and the bands - Streetheart, Lou Gramm of Foreigner and Glass Tiger - rocked Weir Field.

"We have a good product," said concert co-founder Brad Johns. "So we haven't changed much. We tweaked a few things... changed how people get in, added more seating and here we are, seven years and another sell-out."

This year a section for people choosing to sit in chairs was clearly marked and for people like Nancy Evan and Richard Smith that was just fine.

"It's a little weird being penned in," said Evan. "But it's comfortable."

There were fans who had been to every concert and many who were there for the first time. All equally excited.

"I'm a huge fan of Streetheart," said 50-year-old Gary Murray, who has been to every show. "I saw them at the old Misty Moon in Halifax."

For Weir Rockin' newbie Tina Ryan, seeing Glass Tiger was like a dream come true.

"I've loved them since I was 11," gushed the 38-year-old, who was also set up to meet the band backstage. "I'm out of my mind excited."

A new addition to the concert this year was an onsite photo booth set up to take shots of fans decked out in 80s rock-star costumes. Also new, was the addition of an accordion bus which was filled to the brim as it pulled up to the site.

The Weir Rockin' Facebook page is all a buzz already over who fans want to see perform next year.
