Taken to hospital with undetermined injuries

Amherst firefighters and EHS paramedics work with a 74-year-old Fenwick man who was pinned under his antique tractor early Friday. He was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

FENWICK – A 74-year-old Fenwick man was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries following a tractor mishap early Friday.

Witnesses said the man was putting air in the tire of an antique tractor when he started the vehicle without realizing it was in gear.

The tractor lurched forward and knocked him to the ground. However, before the tractor’s rear tire could run over him the vehicle struck his house and he was pinned under the machine.

Members of the Amherst Fire Department and EHS responded to the mishap and using a jack firefighters were able to extricate the man from under the tractor.

He appeared to have a number of abrasions as he was being loaded on the stretcher for transport to hospital.

It looks as if the neutral safety switch was by passed on this tractor as if it is the one in the picture, it has one. I know these can be a nuisance sometimes, but they do prevent accidents.
