AMHERST – The Garage Guys are at it again and this time cancer patients and their families will be the beneficiaries.
A group of Amherst and area contractors have come together to organize a fundraiser that will see more than $50,000 in merchandise auctioned off with the proceeds going to support the Cumberland Health Care Foundation’s Cancer Assistance Program.
“We want to do something that’s going to help people in the local area and there are a lot of people who have had cancer or know someone who has,” contactor Bob McLean of R.L. McLean Construction. “We believe this will help a lot of people.”
The Garage Guys are hosting an auction and dance on Sept. 21 at the Amherst Fire Department from 3 p.m. until midnight.
The live auction will feature a complete two-car garage package valued at more than $35,000, while also featured are driveway paving valued at $3,000 and up to $5,000 in retail lease credits from Amherst Chrysler/Atlantic Kia.
There are plans to add more items to the live auction while there will be thousands of dollars in merchandise available through a silent auction that will run throughout the event.
“There will be a lot of silent auction items,” Steve Gibson of Steve Gibson Contracting said. “If you’re thinking of building a garage, leasing a new vehicle or paving your driveway come out to the auction because you could get a good deal and support a very good cause at the same time.”
The day’s events will also include a pulled pork dinner, live entertainment and dancing. There will also be a 50/50 draw.
Admission will be by donation.
Since June 2009 the Cumberland Cancer Assistance Program has provide just over $100,000 in aid to cancer patients with expenses not covered by health plans or MSI.
“We are so thrilled the contractors are hosting this even. The cancer program is incredibly important to patients across Cumberland County and we rely completely on donations to make it happen,” health care foundation managing director Gwen Kerr said.
The event is being hosted by: K.L. Carter and Son, Dave Clarke Trucking, Casey Concrete, Newcon Construction, Harrison Home Building Centres, R.L. McLean Construction, Lake & Skinner Electrical, Steve Gibson Contracting and Costin Paving.
