AMHERST – Blueberry season is a definite forbearer of cooler weather.

As part of Amherst’s first Blueberry Harvest Festival, Dayle’s Department Store is hosting a fashion show at Victoria Square on Friday prior to the festival’s kickoff gala.

“It’s something we haven’t done in a long time. It’s definitely the first time we’ve had a fashion show outside so hopefully the weather co-operates,” Tamara Porter of Dayle’s Department Store said.

The fashion show begins at 6:30 p.m. in the square and will feature a number of local personalities modeling fall and back to school fashions from the downtown department store.

Porter said there will be close to 30 models participating in the fashion show that will help kick off the three-day blueberry festival that’s being organized by the Downtown Amherst Business Advisory Committee.

“There’ll be quite a bit to see in terms of fashions for all ages,” she said. “There’ll be skinny jeans, tops, bottoms and a wide assortment of fall and winter fashions as well as accessories.”

Following the fashion show, the square will host the Blueberry Harvest Festival Gala from 8 to 10 p.m. featuring wine, snacks and entertainment from Jennifer Siddall as well as Sweet Addiction.

There will also be draws for numerous door prizes from Dayle’s Department Store, Damaris Spa and Wellness Centre, JG Jewelers and McCully Market and Things.

Tickets for the gala are $10 and there still some available at Dayle’s or the McCully Market.
