The Duck Dynasty inspired float sits in the parking lot of Advocate District School on Saturday following the conclusion of the 51st Annual Advocate Bazaar Parade which began at the Advocate Post Office at 11:00 am on Saturday.
ADVOCATE HARBOUR-Foggy weather conditions could not stop the streets of Advocate Harbour from being lined with people and cars in anticipation of its 51st Annual Bazaar Parade.
"The Bazaar is like an Old Home Week for the community," stated District 10 County Councillor Don Fletcher on Saturday. "It's a chance for people to get together. Sometimes, you can only get to see people once a year," he added.
The parade, which seemed larger than last year's, contained classic cars; fire trucks and emergency vehicles from Advocate, Fox River-Port Greville-Wards Brook as well as the Municipality of Cumberland County and the Parrsboro Volunteer Fire Department.
Some notable parade floats included one inspired by the hit TV program Duck Dynasty; Blue Wave Energy (Warren Bellieveau); Class A Trucking and Septic Pumping, a landscaping and excavating company from Parrsboro; Home Hardware, the Port Greville Market as well as Bathing Beauties’ Jeff and Oralee O’Byrne (Age of Sail Heritage Centre) who were modeling men’s and women’s swimwear from the 1880s; Advocate Country Rite Stop and Irving (Mike and Sarah Berry), which held its annual customer appreciation day and barbecue fundraiser in support of the IWK Children's Hospital on Friday as well as the Bayview Health Centre float.
Work is currently being done on a diningr, recreation and living area extension of the Bayview Health Centre that Fletcher hopes will be usable by the end of October, 2013.
As for the Bazaar, which, in recent years, has mostly benefitted the Advocate Harbour Volunteer Fire Department, it began on Thursday with a variety show at Advocate District School. On Friday, an auction was held at the Advocate Fire Department. The Bayview Health Care Centre Foundation supper was held at 4:30 pm on Saturday inside the Advocate District School gym.
Prior to the supper, chilldren of all ages enjoyed such entertainment as a brand new mock jail, a bouncy tent, ring toss, hot dogs, hamburgers and music provided by Dave Baker.
Following the Foundation Supper, a Duck Race was to be held down by the causeway, with prizes being awarded to the first three or four ducks to cross under the bridge. Top prize: $100.00
