The Swift Current Rural RCMP Detachment is seeking the public's assistance in locating the individuals responsible for starting five grass fires by throwing fireworks or smoke bombs from a moving vehicle.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. this past Sunday, a white Dodge Caliber hatchback drove throughout Lac Pelletier Regional Park while its occupants threw fireworks or smoke bombs out of the car windows and on to the dry grass. No damage occurred to any structures at the Regional Park, however five separate fires were set, one of which was very close to the campground at Darling Beach. The fires were extinguished by the Gull Lake and Neville Fire Departments, with numerous campers in the area also helping put out the potentially dangerous fires.
The RCMP are investigating the incident as cases of arson.
