PARRSBORO – Hundreds of people came out to listen to bands, look at the art on display, and enjoy burgers, sausages and hotdogs during Band Day in Parrsboro.

“Some of us played in three bands so some of us were pushed but we felt we played well,” said Michael Fuller, past chair of the Parrsboro Band Association and the director and tenor saxophonist with The Elastic Big Band.

Fuller was pleased with the response to their music.

“When you’re inside you sometimes notice when things go a little but crazy but people outside don’t normally know where that is unless it really goes off the rails.”

The Elastic Big Band was one of five bands that took to the stage during the afternoon of music – The Parrsboro Citizens Band, The Parrsboro Citizens Choir, The Pictou Brass and Reed Band, and the Sackville Citizens Band from Sackville, N.B. rounded out the roster.

Lori Lynch is the present chair of the Parrsboro Band Association. Something new they brought in this year was Art in the Park.

“The Art in the Park was something new that brought some more people down and added interest,” said Lynch.

Fuller agrees.

“The Art in the Park seems to have brought a lot of people in and it seems to be a really good development.”

Both were very pleased with the turnout.

“Some people are saying it’s the biggest turnout we’ve had since we used to do the big chicken barbecue which was years and years ago,” said Lynch. “It’s a fundraising day for the Parrsboro Band Association and an opportunity to celebrate summer and bring people out for a street party.”

Lynch was also happy the Show n’ Shine car show was on the same day.

“When they did their drive-by of the old cars I was like, ‘wow, this is great.’”

The Parrsboro Band Association supports several bands.
