Richards' throws one-hitter in finale

AMHERST – The Amherst Pioneer Fuels Red Sox struck for four runs in the first inning and Chris Richards threw a one-hitter en route to a 12-0 win over the Enfield Wildcats to claim the Carter's Sports Cresting Bantam AA Baseball Tournament on Sunday.

Richards walked four and struck out eight for Amherst while Caleb Medicraft suffered the loss.

Brandon Greeno homered and singled for Amherst, who put the game out of reach with five runs in the third.

Joel McCrossin and Caleb Coulson singled and doubled for Amherst, while Richards hit three singles, Morgan Jobes doubled and MacKenzie LeBlanc, Mike O'Brien, Dylan Baker and Baiden Landry each singled.

Matt Turner singled for Enfield.

Amherst, who went 3-1 in the round robin, lost earlier in the day to Enfield.

Richards was named top pitcher of the tournament while Jobes was top hitter. Chandler Williams of Enfield was named most sportsmanlike player.

In the bronze medal game, the Fredericton Royals struck for seven runs in the third to defeat the Nova Scotia Bantam Girls 16-3.

The win came a week after Amherst claimed the Summerside tournament over Enfield.
