The RCMP Shelburne County Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SCEU) have arrested a Roseway man and seized his vehicle in accordance with the Federal Excise Act.
Wednesday, at approximately 3 p.m., RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence located on Paces Lane in Roseway, Shelburne County.
As a result of the search, RCMP seized over 300 cartons of contraband cigarettes. A 26-year-old Roseway man was also arrested without incident and an additional 100 cartons of contraband cigarettes were located in his vehicle. A 2013 Honda Accord valued at approximately $35,000 was seized by police. The man faces charges of under the Federal Excise Act and Provincial Revenue Act and is scheduled to appear in Shelburne Provincial Court on September 25th, 2013.
"The trade in illicit tobacco is a burden on all of us," said Corporal Nancy Mason from the Shelburne SCEU. The profits from illicit tobacco are used to fund other illegal activities, such as drug and firearms smuggling".
