AMHERST – RCMP want to remind the public to pay attention to safety when travelling this summer.

Motorists are being reminded to buckle up for safety and drivers must continue to take responsibility and remain focused while behind the wheel.

RCMP Northern Traffic Services continue to educate the public and enforce violations of the Motor Vehicle Act.

On Monday, RCMP conducted a cell phone/seatbelt initiative in Oxford with 11 charges being laid for operating a motor vehicle while not wearing a seatbelt. Two others were charged with operating a handheld cellular device while operating a motor vehicle.

Upon conviction, the fine for either offence is $169.61.

“These violations are usual factors in serious injury and fatal collisions,” Const. Charlie Smith of Northern Traffic Services said. “Buckling your seatbelt and focusing on the road helps the driver play a role in road safety.”
