HALIFAX - One man is facing assault charges after spraying a 52-year-old man in the face with “sensory irritant” in Halifax’s west end, police say.

Just after 9 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a fight between two men at the corner of Bayers Road and Romans Avenue.

They found the 52-year-old man lying facedown on the ground, having been sprayed with some type of irritant. He was treated at the scene.

Police later arrested the suspect, a 21-year-old man, but didn’t find a weapon.

He is in custody and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court to face charges of assault with a weapon and violating a court order.

Police say the incident was not random, and the men knew each other.
