AMHERST - Kidney research is in the forefront in this year’s Annual Charity Golf Tournament at the Amherst Golf Club.
The 18th annual tournament will raise awareness and funds for the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Sharon Gould, acting president of the Kidney Foundation Amherst Chapter said.
“For 18 years we have been raising funds through this golf tournament. We support thousands of kidney patients in our province each year.”
Toronto Dominion (TD) is the major sponsor, while Antigonish Farmers’ Mutual Insurance is the corporate sponsor of the tournament. Several other local businesses looking for advertisement opportunities will be providing prizes throughout the tournament.
Gould said she’s overwhelmed by the amount of support the community has given.
“The businesses in Amherst and the surrounding areas are generous, generous supporters in giving us prizes for the tournament.”
Each par-3 hole will consist of a hole-in-one prize; three new cars donated by Amherst Toyota, Hatheway Ford and Scotia Hyundai and a $20,000 cash prize from Archway Insurance.
Also included in the day’s big event will be a silent auction and barbecue.
Gould is encouraging people (golf enthusiasts or not) to form teams of four to come out and a have a good time.
“It will be a good event for a great cause,” she said.
The tournament will take place at the Amherst Golf Club July 13.
