Celebrating the 90th anniversary of Wright's Pharmasave recently were (front, from left) Cheryl Black, Heather George, Mary Canning, Barb Tennant, Lisa Wood, Donna Hanna, (back) Sean Cheverie, Alison MacEachern, Graydon Nickerson, Shauna Cameron, Bart Butler, Shelley Hatfield, James Cole and Robert Taylor.

PARRSBORO – A fixture of the Main Street business community here took time to celebrate 90 years of operation recently.

Wright’s Pharmasave was a busy spot as owners, staff and customers got together to enjoy birthday cake, hotdogs and special sales offers.

Co-owner Sean Cheverie said the day went very well. He attributed the longevity of the business to several factors.

“Our business is built around four key components: service, selection, convenience and trust,” he said. “We are very proud to be part of the Parrsboro and area business community. Wright’s continues to do very well.”

The pharmacy was founded by Pearley Wright in 1923, and several of Wright’s descendants were on hand for the anniversary celebration, including daughters Joyce and Pat, grandchildren Bob and Rosemary, and great-grandson Michael.

In 1966 the business was purchased by the Henderson brothers, who hired young Dalhousie University graduate Graydon Nickerson.

Nickerson went on to buy the business in 1972 and operated it until 1999, when he sold it to current owners Sean and Kelli Cheverie, and Bart Butler. Nickerson continues to work there to this day, and was also on hand for the anniversary celebration.
