Sixteen graduates, principal leave RHDH

RIVER HEBERT-The future appears bright for RHDH and its graduates. “We have had another great year here at RHDH,” stated principal Donnie Gamblin. “I am very pleased to inform you that the school renovation is back on track.”

Gamblin, a native of Spencer’s Island who recently accepted the principal’s job at Advocate District School, said he would miss the school he spent the past seven years at following Brandon McLellan’s singing of ‘You’re Gonna Miss This.’

“I truly will miss RHDH, the community, the staff and the students as well,” stated Gamblin. “But tonight isn’t about me, it’s about our graduates,” he added.

One of those graduates was class valedictorian David Quinn, a star athlete and scholar who suggested that going to school in a construction zone builds character.

“It’s no coincidence that we won four regional banners in various sports despite the embarrassing conditions of our school,” stated Quinn during his valedictory address. “We learned to work both as a team and as individuals. As graduates, we will face many challenges, though uncertainty can provide opportunities as well.”

Reverend Wayne McCarther, a native of Maccan, was the evening’s guest speaker.

“Fifty-six years ago I stood on this very stage, one of the few things still remaining,” remarked McCarther during his speech. “Your challenge is a great one, but, you can do it if you believe in yourself,” he added. “All the best to you.”

The class of 2013 includes Rebecca Brake, Brandon Burbine, Jamie Carmichael, Kirkland Doncaster, Shawn Eagles, Erica Glenn, Cassidy Glennie, Eric McKinnon, Brandon McLellan, Meaghan McLellan, Amanda Mollon, David Quinn, Cassandra Riley-Persad, Stephanie Stone, Dean Willigar and Paulie Willigar.

RHDH vice-principal Vernon Taylor read their names aloud prior to receiving their Nova Scotia Schools completion certificates from outgoing principal Gamblin.
