Braking for bathrooms

AMHERST – Mervil Rushton Jr. guides his dad, Mervil Rushton, as he backs a bathroom building into the Beacon Street Park Wednesday at 1 p.m.

The bathrooms were moved from the Lions Park on Hickman Street to make room for the new elementary school to be built at the Lions Park location.

This was the second move for Rushton Building Movers in as three days.

On Monday Rushton volunteered his time and expertise to move the equipment shed from the Lion Cecil Small Ball Field to the Little League Field on Beacon Street.

“Anything to help the kids,” said Rushton.

After putting out tenders, the Town of Amherst hired George R. Saunders Construction to move the bathroom building, and Saunders subcontracted Rushton to do the actual move.

They started moving the building at 9 a.m. and finished at 3 p.m.
