Kentville's Snack Shack's, from left, Wafaa Toulany, Mary Rhynold and Joanne Gillis celebrate after learning the employees, as well as Stephanie Dunham and Valerie Archer, will split a Lotto 6/49 jackpot of more than $15.2 million.
The co-owner and four employees have just found out they hold the winning Lotto 6/49 ticket from Wednesday worth more than $15 million.
“I’m still in shock. We are having a hard time grasping,” says Mary Rhynold, before letting out a sigh of disbelief.
Rhynold has been a cook and waitress at Snack Shack for 14 years. She says she and the four other who went in on the winning ticket learned that they had won when they opened at 6:30 a.m.
“I’m retiring. I don’t know about the rest,” laughs the 58-year-old.
The jackpot is worth $15,222,777, which split five ways works out to about $3.04 million apiece.
Rhynold says the five of them have been buying 6/49 tickets together for over a year, sometimes through instant pick and sometimes by picking their own numbers.
She says while she will be hanging up her apron, she won’t be doing it until the owners can replace her. In fact, she plans on working today just like normal.
“I will work until they find somebody. I won’t leave them hanging.”
