HALIFAX - Police have scoured the home of a Hammonds Plains man accused of killing Reita Jordan in hopes of finding the missing Halifax woman’s remains.

Paul Trevor Calnen of Hammonds Plains has been charged with murder in the death of Reita Jordan.

A day after police laid a second-degree murder charge against Paul Trevor Calnen in relation to Jordan’s disappearance, officers spent seven hours Wednesday searching through a house the two shared.

“Our purpose and our focus is to locate the remains of Reita Jordan,” said Halifax RCMP Cpl. Scott MacRae. “This being a primary residence is a focus for investigators.”

Calnen, who was dating Jordan, was arrested at 2:30 p.m. Monday on Brunswick Street in Halifax and charged with her murder on Tuesday afternoon.

Jordan was last seen March 19 in Halifax by friends. The 34-year-old was reported missing later that month and hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

MacRae said police were concerned because Jordan hadn’t been active on any social media since her disappearance.

MacRae wasn’t sure if investigators would be back at the home in the future. He said they arrived at about 9 a.m. and left around 4 p.m.

“It’s very much an active and on-going file,” he said of the case.

Calnen has also been charged with indignity to human remains.

He’s been remanded to the Central Nova Correctional Facility in Burnside until his next court appearance on July 22.
