Man facing seven charges after domestic assault

Amherst Police responded to 31 complaints over the weekend.

AMHERST – A 23-year-old Amherst man is facing several charges after an alleged domestic assault on Sunday at a Poplar Street apartment.

The man is facing two charges of assault and damage to property and single charges of being unlawfully in a dwelling house, theft and breaching his probation order.

Amherst Police responded to 31 complaints over the weekend.

On Friday night, officers responded to a disturbance in the parking lot at the Amherst Town Square. Witnesses reported a male in a vehicle was yelling at an individual in another vehicle.

Police located the parties involved and determined it was only a verbal argument. The males were warned about their behaviour and no charges are expected to be laid.

Officers attended a break and enter complaint at a North Adelaide Street residence. Nothing was reported taken and the matter remains under investigation.

On Saturday, a loud argument between a man and a woman was reported at a Dickey Street apartment. Both subjects were questioned by police, but no charges were laid.

Police stopped a vehicle on South Albion Street and discovered that one of the passengers was breaching his curfew conditions.

The 19-year-old was driven home by police and charges of breaching an undertaken are expected to be laid.

A 39-year-old man was arrested for public intoxication following an incident on Victoria Street.

The man was discovered passed out in the lobby of a senior’s complex and was transported to cells until he was sober. He was issued a violation ticket.

Police went to a Prince Arthur Street restaurant in an attempt to move along a person who was refusing to leave the establishment. The man was on the bar suspension list.

The man was gone by the time police arrived.

Officers also received a complaint of four individuals who fled from a cab without paying their fare.

One of the males was located by police and the matter was resolved without charges.

On Sunday, police went to a Davison Street apartment on allegations that a man was punched by another resident of the building and that a vehicle was also vandalized. The victim did not suffer any injuries and declined to press charges.

The investigation into the property damage is continuing.

As well, a shed was broken into on Church Street overnight and four tire rims were stolen.
