The call came in on June 7 at 7:45 p.m. from a man who referenced the Boston Marathon bombings and suggested something similar was about to happen in Halifax.
The profanity-laced call was made from a payphone at the corner of Spring Garden Road and South Park Street. Officers were on scene within minutes, according to a release, but didn’t find anyone near the phone.
Halifax Regional Police released the audio clip in hopes of identifying the caller. The man can be heard stating, "Remember the Boston bombing, well that's gonna (expletive) happen up here in Halifax (inaudible) my (expletive) (expletive)," before hanging up.
Police told the organizers of several charity events underway in the city about the threat, and organizers of the Relay for Life and the Arthritis Walk cancelled their event.
‚ÄúIt is disheartening that someone would make such threats and affect several charity events in our community which many people enjoy every year,‚ÄĚ states a release from Halifax Regional Police.
Anyone who recognizes the voice on the recording or has information about the threat is asked to contact police at (902) 490-5020 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
