Doctor charged with drug trafficking

The Halifax RCMP/HRP Integrated Drug Unit has charged a doctor for with drug trafficking in Musquodoboit Harbour.

On May 28, Dr. Violet Hawes was arrested by North Central RCMP officers, at the request of the Integrated Drug Unit, for trafficking in hydromorphone. The investigation revealed and police allege, that in 2009, Dr. Hawes wrote narcotic prescriptions for a patient. She would then get the person to fill the prescription and give her half of the drugs for her own personal use. 

Dr. Hawes will be facing charges under section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act for Drug Trafficking. She was released and will be appearing in Shubenacadie Provincial Court on July 22nd, 2013.
