Scotty and the Stars returning July 27

SPRINGHILL-What do you want to be when you grow up? A fire fighter? A doctor?

Or a singer like the members of Scotty and the Stars?

Scotty and the Stars is a children’s musical entertainment group from Fredericton that “delivers positive messages, active participation and musical education through original music and enthusiastic live performances,” as they did this past Saturday at the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Centre in Springhill.

Scotty and the Stars front man Scott Sampson, a kindergarten teacher, formed the band five years ago because he felt that the music curriculum was a bit outdated.

“I felt there was a void in the modern day music curriculum that needed to be filled,” stated Sampson. “That’s why I decided to form the band five years ago.”

Other band members include Nicci Blewett, Richard Gloade and Kelly Waterhouse, who was not with the band in Springhill this past Saturday.

The band’s hour-long concert had children stomping their feet to songs from their three ECMA nominated albums: Here We Go, Making Music and Time to Get Up.

The band’s new video “Don’t Bully”(which can be viewed at hits home, especially for those living in Cumberland County who are all too familiar with the impact bullying plays.

In addition to three albums, Scott Sampson also wrote a children’s book titled The Magical Adventures of Scotty. The book was illustrated by Amy Bourne.

A fourth album, DVD and even a second children’s book are in the works.

In the meantime, Scotty and the Stars have a busy spring/summer tour planned.

For those in Cumberland County that missed Scotty and Stars this past Saturday, or, who want to see this high-energy children’s educational musical group perform again, they can do so on Saturday, July 27 in conjunction with the Pugwash Harbour Fest.
