AMHERST-The smell of freshly popped popcorn filled the air as hundreds of children of all ages sprung into spring this past Saturday in Amherst during Spring Street Academy’s first annual Spring Fling, a fundraiser held in conjunction with their home and school association, that was designed to raise money for class trips.
For just $5.00, children received 20 tickets that were utilized for events or the canteen, which included such delicious food items as popcorn and Gatorade.
“We have enough different activities for kids that $5.00 will allow them to try everything once,” stated Spring Street Academy principal Aaron Stubbert. “For kids that don’t have any money, we have two free events: the ring toss, which was manned by the school’s physical education teacher Daren White, and the rock wall.
Other activities included, but were not limited to, the following: balloon animals (3 tickets), basketball shoot (2 tickets), face painting (5 tickets), fish pond (2 tickets), hockey shoot (2 tickets) and the massive Batman challenge bouncy tent (5 tickets).
“With the Batman challenge, we wanted to bring something to our spring fling that kids don’t have in town,” stated Stubbert. “Archway Insurance sponsored the tent.”
