Two witnesses to the rollover (right) watch traffic go by as the driver and passenger (grey shirt) inspect the truck.

AMHERST – A truck and trailer rolled onto its side on the Trans-Canada Highway half way between Amherst and Springhill today at about 1 p.m.

The driver and passenger, both from Amherst, were not hurt.

“The trailer started going back and forth,” said the passenger. “He tried to stop it but there was too much weight.”

“We’re lucky,” he added.

The drivers said he was taking the trailer to Oxford to get it safety inspected.

They were both wearing seatbelts.

“He (the passenger) was having a hard time getting out of the seatbelt but we’re lucky we weren’t hurt,” said the driver.

Two witnesses at the scene, who were also driving a pickup truck and pulling a small trailer, said they saw the trailer going back and forth before it flipped.

“Thankfully, nobody was hurt,” said one of the witnesses, who was returning to their  home near Digby after spending the winter in Florida.
