AMHERST – Amherst firefighters were called to a Croft Street home over the noonhour Thursday to put out a fire.
Firefighters were called to the home just before noon when a resident reported smelling smoke.
"There were two people in the home at the time and both managed to get out," Capt. John Matthews of the Amherst Fire Department said. "There were no injuries and the home is covered by insurance."
Firefighters extinguished the fire within a few minutes, but some smoke could still be seen coming from the roof area.
Cause of the fire remains under investigation.
