David Coon passes

SPRINGHILL – A community leader, former councillor and deputy mayor has passed.

David Coon passed away at home on Tuesday, April 16.

In earlier years, Coon worked as an electrician and later for Correctional Service Canada, retiring after 31 years of service. He was very involved in the community of Springhill, serving as councillor, chairman for the Springhill police commission, and was an active member of the Springhill Mining Heritage Society, while keeping abreast of the town’s current affairs, offering oversight and input on a number of issues including the need for a new ladder truck for the Springhill Volunteer Fire Department and the town’s financial health.

Coon was a lifetime member of All Saints Anglican Church and served as Warden of the Church and as a Vestry Man. David enjoyed spending time with family at the cottage during the summer and attending his grandchildren's sporting events during the winter months. He could always be found having coffee with friends on his front step after supper.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, the former Wanda Canning; daughters Cathy, Carolanne, Tina and Cindy; grandchildren Brad, Brittany, Brianna, Tori, Alex, Wyatt, and Madelyn. Arrangements are under the care and direction of A H Brown Funeral Home and family and friends are invited to a funeral service Friday, April 19, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the All Saints Anglican Church, Springhill.

You may not remember me Wanda but you lived across the road from me when you were a little girl on Stewart Hill In Upper. I read here about your husband and I wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss. Take care. Marina
