Firefighters use the Jaws of Life to free a woman from her vehicle Sunday.

DARTMOUTH - The Jaws of Life was needed to free a woman from her vehicle following an accident in Dartmouth on Sunday afternoon.

Halifax Regional Police Staff Sgt. Bill Morris says the accident involved a single vehicle heading southbound on Prince Albert Road near Portland Street.

He said the female driver drove into a street sign and lost control.

“It resulted in the car catapulting and landing on the driver’s side,” Morris said.

The fire department removed the woman from the vehicle, and she was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police are investigating to determine whether speed or alcohol were factors.
