Seniors lined up to learn more about the services available to them here in Cumberland County at the NSCC Amherst learning centre, where Fonda Hutchinson (centre) with the Victorian Order of Nurses was one of the vendors.

AMHERST – To say the Seniors Expo at Nova Scotia Community College’s Amherst Community Learning Centre was successful would be an understatement.

It was a blowout success.

“I’m actually in shock," Continuing Care Assistant [CCA] instructor Rhonda Jackson  said Thursday against the crush of the audience as they lobbied for seats and mingled amongst the 12 vendors dedicated to senior related services here in Cumberland County.

“Next year I’m going to have to account for more chairs.”

This marks the second year the expo has come to Amherst after the Education Centre opened its doors at the Amherst Town Square. With snacks, refreshments, information and door prizes on hand, the expo exceeded its capacity, leading to a standing room only environment as guest speakers, like the Victorian Order of Nurses’ Angie Nuttall, added to the event dedicated to informing seniors.

The expo was coordinated by NSCC’s CCA students.
