NEW GERMANY - Police say a 5-year-old girl is at the IWK Health Centre with serious facial injuries after being attacked by a pitbull on Wednesday afternoon.

Lunenburg County RCMP say they responded to a 911 call around 4 p.m. from a New Germany home owner who said her 18-month-old pitbull attacked the child inside her residence.

The dog was seized by Lunenburg County Animal Control and will be put down per orders of the owner.

Police are continuing to investigate but say they don’t anticipate charges being laid.

Colin Helm of the Lunenburg County RCMP wouldn’t disclose the relationship between the dog owner and the victim.
