AMHERST – Sometimes addictions are hard to recognize.
That’s the tagline for a new gambling and substance abuse awareness campaign. The campaign, entitled Remove the Mask, is being launched by the community health boards of Colchester East Hants and Cumberland Health Authority, with funding from Gambling Awareness Nova Scotia.
Newspaper advertising is part of the initiative, as well as Facebook advertising, print posters and a website, removethemask.ca.
The main focus of the effort is problem gambling. A 2007 study found that about 6.1 per cent of adults in the province were at risk for problem gambling.
The concept was first developed in Saskatchewan.
