Toys for Tots

Amherst - Hundreds of bikers from across the Maritimes are expected to meet at Teazer’s Pub for the annual Bike Swap Meet and they’ll be in a donating mood.

When the doors open on Saturday, each biker will donate a toonie toward the Toys for Tots Program of Cumberland County.

Raymond Jones said it’s a great opportunity to help an organization that could benefit from a few extra dollars.

“We’ve been running the Bike Swap Meet for the last 25 years and we’ve been involved with Toys for Tots because the proceeds stay within the community and helps those in need.”

Toys for Tots’ goal is to deliver new toys to children at Christmas, spreading the message of hope to the less fortunate.

Doors open at 10 a.m.

Bike enthusiasts who attend the event will be swapping equipment from leather jackets to various bike parts.

Jones expects 300 to 400 bikers to participate in the event. Not only are the bikers attending for their own purposes but they realize it’s for a good cause as well.

“The bikers may advertise the event on their own websites in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick,” he said.

It also gives bikers a chance to get out and meet others with similar interests, said Howard Gray, a loyal Teazer’s customer.

“It’s basically a meet and greet to kick off the biking season,”
