AMHERST – What better way to spend your Shrove Tuesday than dining on pancakes with your friends at the Holy Family Catholic Church? Members of the church gathered at the parish hall to enjoy some homemade pancakes with all the fixings, including sausages, baked beans and even Jell-O for dessert.
“Lent is the 40 days of fasting,” explained Francine Robichaud, one of the volunteers at the supper. “This is sort of like our Mardi Gras. We do this every year and all the proceeds go to the church.”
The supper, Robichaud said, is the last “splurge” before they begin the fast for Lent (which begins on Shrove Tuesday).
“It is utterly delicious,” said Carolyn Droesbeck. “I’m enjoying every mouthful. I had this when I was a child growing up and I’m still enjoying it.”
