AMHERST – Amherst Police are investigating a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision that occurred near the Amherst Centre Mall on Sunday.
Police say one vehicle turning into the mall parking lot was struck on the passenger side by a vehicle coming from the other direction.
There were no injuries reported, but both vehicles suffered significant damage.
Police responded to 24 complaints over the weekend.
On Friday, police received a report of a possible stolen phone being purchased from a local buy and sell Facebook group, while officers also responded to a call of a man and woman arguing outside an Albion Street residents. Patrols of the area failed to locate the individuals involved.
On Saturday, police were called to a complaint that a vacant Church Street building had been broken into. The break-in may have occurred sometime last week and it’s unknown at this time if anything was taken.
Police went to a North Adelaide Street residence to remove a 20-year-old male that was having an argument with another occupant. The male left on his own and there were no other issues.
Officers responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver driving erratically and travelling at a low rate of speed on South Albion Street. The suspect vehicle was located and the elderly male driver was found to show no signs of impairment.
Police were dispatched to Prince Arthur Street on reports of a male lying on the stree. The male was found to be intoxicated and was transported to the regional hospital for observation. He was lodged in cells once he was cleared medically.
On Saturday night, police received a report of four to five males fighting near Eddy Street. One male was located by patrols and arrested for public intoxication. The 19-year-old was held in cells until sober.
A 27-year-old man is facing charges of public intoxication after a disturbance at a downtown bar. The man was put out of the bar by staff for being intoxicated. He then became belligerent with staff. The male was lodged in cells by police until sober.
Police also investigated a fight complaint outside a Prince Arthur Street restaurant.
On Sunday, officers went to a Minto Street residence after receiving a tamper alert to an offender monitoring bracelet. The investigation into this matter is continuing.
