Power outage follows telephone pole fire

N.S. Power extinguishing telephone pole fire

AMHERST – A portion of Willow Street was blocked off early Friday evening after a telephone pole caught fire.

Deputy Chief Paul Black said when the Amherst Fire Department arrived, the fire was shooting up through the center of the pole.

“We waiting until Nova Scotia Power arrived because they have the equipment to put it out,” he said.

The fire is now extinguished but power in some areas will be out for several hours.
