AMHERST – As part of the mandate to encourage and support the performing arts, Showcase Productions Society has decided to expand upon their one-day theatre tours this year after the successful trips last year.

Picking the best of the shows to be offered this year, Showcase has entered into an agreement with Ambassatours of Halifax and the Confederation Centre for the Arts in Charlottetown and Neptune Theatre in Halifax.

The shows offered this spring and summer include The Importance of Being Earnes (Feb. 10). Legally Blonde (May 18) at Neptune Theatre and three shows at the Confederation Centre of the Arts, including new productions of Evangeline, The Musical (July 13 and July 20), Dear Johnny Deere (July 6) and the ever popular Anne of Green Gables (Aug. 7).

“It would be great way to spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon”, said Ed MacKay, project manager, “and a great way to treat those relatives visiting from away.  Some of the tours are close to being sold out already”.

By getting group-discounted tickets, and working with our favourite coach company, we can offer an exceptional deal to anyone interested in attending theatre away. Generally geared to seniors and those who cannot drive themselves, or those who don’t want the hassle of finding parking, etc. the tours are of a one-day duration, and usually marked for a matinee performance, thus ensuring everyone gets home the same day.

The air-conditioned coaches are the best available for which Ambassatours have won awards.  The tour also included stops for coffee and for a meal (not included). Parking and the toll or bridge fees are covered by the fee charged that also includes admission in the “best available” at the time of booking. Since most of the ticket have already been ordered and purchased, these are usually the best seats in the house.

Operating on a not-for-profit basis, the prices are kept at a reasonable cost. Any profit realized will go towards the groups’ scholarship and sponsorship program.  To date, Showcase has provided in excess of $100,000.00 in financial aid to students since their formation twenty-three years ago.
